Traveling with Tour Groups

by Matthew James

The more the merrier is what my grandmother always said. When you travel in a group it is fun especially if you are with like minded people. As a student hanging out in a gang was cool and looked forward to. If you are going on a group tour then it is all the more pleasurable as you can enjoy a variety of adventures with fellow enthusiasts. There are also advantages in group travel.

Most people think of tour groups as filled Bermuda shorts wearing, camera toting, never leave the hotel package tourists. It's true that many tours are like this. However, not all tours are like this and many offer people the chance to get away from tours and explore. This is good for people who want to travel but don't want to be fully tied down to a set schedule.

Moreover, tours can be a great way to reduce costs. Tour companies buy things in bulk and can get discounts that you normally cannot get. This means that you can save money buy going on a tour group. They can get you access to places and people you might normally not see because they have access to people and places through their networks.

As a student it is fun to travel with friends to the mountains or beach. Student concessions can help you in getting low cost tickets and you can always stay in hostels where again the rates are quite reasonable. Whether it is an educational tour or adventure tour you can always avail reduction in rates. Also you can enjoy being with your age group and have fun on the tour.

Additionally, a lot of women are uncomfortable traveling alone. They are afraid they are more likely to get hurt, scammed, or in trouble on the road. While many women travel around the world by themselves each year, not all women are ready to do so. Tour groups allow single female travelers a group to travel with if her friends dont want to go travel with her. There are also many tour groups that cater just to female travelers too.

Traveling with a tour group is a good option for beginner travelers or those without the time to handle all of the hassle themselves. For first time travelers unsure about traveling or how to meet people, tour groups can provide a good safety net and way for people to wade into the travel pool comfortably. Moreover, they can remove the hassle of booking trips and finding places and eating out. All of this on tours is taken care so that you can enjoy more of your holiday.

The Unforgettable Australian Gold Coast

by Damian Papworth

The eastern coast of Australia is home to some of the most pristine and gorgeous tracts of land on the planet, graced with spectacular beaches and looming ridges that dazzle visitors to these shores. The most popular-and for good reason-of all the wonderful destinations along Australia's Pacific coast would have to be Gold Coast City and the broader Gold Coast area.

This strip of beautiful shoreline and hinterland is situated in the southeastern corner of the state of Queensland, and happens to be located a relatively quick drive south of the state capital, Brisbane. The city is the biggest city in the country among the non-capital cities, and this is in large part due to the tremendous rate of growth of the tourism sector in the Gold Coast.

One of the most stunning attributes of the Gold Coast is the subtle yet excellent fusion of modern, urban life with pristine natural surroundings, achieved in such a way that few if any other places in the world can claim. The center of town and the most developed area is the narrow stretch of city located right on the waterfront, and there are plenty of high-rise apartment condos and many more features of a modern cityscape; then, there are natural spaces located a little farther inland such as the pristine and biodiverse rainforest and many remote beach areas that are fodder for backpackers, nature lovers, and anybody looking to get back in touch with the great outdoors.

A truly remarkable quality of this area is its winding grid of man-made canals and waterways, which were built as a way to ease development in what was historically a low-lying marshy area. In their totality, these canals stretch out over a distance that is over nine times longer than the world-famous canals of Venice, which is a fair amount of waterways when you think about it. One of the benefits of this feautre has been that lots of properties are located on the waterfront even if they are not right on the beach, and this has helped boost the Gold Coast's allure.

The Gold Coast is ultimately known as one of the best surf destinations in the country, and in the world for that matter. The surf breaks of greatest renown along the Gold Coast's roughly 35 miles of beaches would have to include Kirra, Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, and Palm Beach, among others. Here, the perfect wave is always just about to roll in.

Given the excellent beach conditions and the temptation to take a dip experienced by everybody, there is a professional and extremely competent Shark Control Program carried out by the state government, and it is credited with sparing beachgoers from shark attacks since the late 1950s...an eternity! Under the watchful gaze of these professionals, tourists and locals alike can take a dip without cause for concern.

Some of the most recognizable places in the Gold Coast are the Q1 building, a soaring tower with an observing deck that is only beaten out in height by one other tower (also in Australia) in all of the southern hemisphere, at about 754 feet tall. Then there is the beauty of Lamington Park, which figures on the World Heritage Site list compiled by the United Nations because of the ecological diversity and spectacular natural vistas. Finally, just about evey beach along the entire length of the Gold Coast-it ought to go without saying-is on its own a landmark worthy of recognition.

All in all, the Gold Coast has plenty to offer people of all tastes-a fact that is well attested to by the 10 million visitors that come to this corner of Queensland every year. The fact that a majority of those people are themselves Australian is further proof of the fact that this is one of the most naturally pleasing and rewarding landscapes in the vast and intriguing country/continent of Australia.

The Four Best Historical Sites

by Paul Erikson

The wonders of the ancient world can still be seen today. They are spread out around the world and give us insight into the development of people and places and cultures. They help us understand the past and help us understand who we are now. There are many places around the world like this bu the four best are Machu Picchu, Tikal, the Pyramids, and Angkor Wat. These are the giants. They biggest, the most visited, the most talked about. They are remnants of some of the most powerful cultures that have ever lived.

Machu Picchu- This world heritage site is under siege by the tourist who visit it each year. With millions of people visiting this place each year, it is getting worn down and there have been a number of efforts to preserve the site from tourism lately. This place is located high in the Andes mountains and was part of the Incan empire. Many theories about it exist but it was most likely a summer home for the Incan king.

Tikal- Situated within the Central American jungles, Tikals archeology and architecture, flora and thick forests are a popular tourist destination. Tikal is a world heritage site with beautiful temples that give us a peak into the lives of 7th century Mayans. Tikal was one of the biggest city states in the region and was once the most powerful Mayan state. It was lost to the jungle for centuries and has only been excavated over the last few decades. Many of its buildings still remain under the forest. The crowds here dont come until mid-day so in the mornings, this wonderful place is all yours.

Angkor Wat- Angkor Wat and the Angkor temple complex are the most visited tourist attractions in the world. People come from all over the world to see the remains of this lost city. It has been featured in many movies and everyone is familiar with it. Located in Cambodia, Angkor was once the capital of the Khmer civilization. Built in the 12th century, there are hundreds of temples and structures here to explore. The most famous is the main temple of Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Te Phrom, the last being featured in the movie Tomb Raider. Make sure you come early to beat the crowds.

The Pyramids- Pyramids are situated in Egypt on the banks of river Nile and they are the major tourist attraction in Egypt. Built thousands of years ago, they were built with a great understanding of math and with all human labor. They align perfectly to the stars and how this happened is still not really understood by science. It is proof early civilizations were not as primitive as we like to think they are. These three giants are a great site to visit and give us a lot of information about one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

There are many historical sites in the world that are important and should be visited by tourists. However, these four are by far the most popular and the biggest. They see the most tourists and get the most fame. Tourism is very beneficial to places in the world but its also important to remember to conserve and protect these sites too. When you go visit, make sure you do your best to keep these places safe for future generations.

Travel Insurance

by Matthew Kepnes

Buying travel insurance is something every traveler should do. Many problems could happen while overseas and many regular insurance plans wont cover you overseas. If you aren't covered when you travel, you should buy travel insurance for your trip. Moreover, travel insurance cover more than just you but all those accidents and problems you might face on the road.

You should also be aware of what is not covered and exclusions. Travel insurance policies do not normally cover alcohol or drug related incidents, or carelessness in handling your possessions and baggage. You won't get reimbursed if the problem happened because you were reckless.

Travel insurance often covers health problems that happen on the road. Dont buy a plan that doesnt or won't protect you from illness. If you get sick on the road, you want to make sure you are covered, especially if you are injured during an outdoor trek and need to be airlifted somewhere- those airlifts are expensive. You do not want to have to cover the costs of that yourself.

If you have to make a claim, remember travel insurance companies are a business and will drag their feet to avoid making the payout. Make sure you have all your receipts and necessary forms. Be prepared to wait awhile to get your payment as their can always be some reason and some loophole that delays payment.

There are a lot of travel insurance companies out there. Some of the best travel insurance companies are STA Travel, World Nomads. Depending on your needs and requirements, one of these companies will meet your requirements. Remember to always read the find print in any contract and agreement before you sign it because if something goes wrong, you don't want to be the victim of a legal loophole.

No matter what your needs it is important that you buy travel insurance before you go away, especially if you are going away for an extended amount of time. You never what could happen, what could get lost or stolen or who could get sick with what. It is better to be safe than sorry for the few dollars travel insurance costs per day, it is a worthwhile expense.
