Chesterfield – Derbyshire Is Much More Than A Market Town

Chesterfield - Derbyshire is the next to the largest town in Derbyshire. It has been known since its early days as a market town and they are still going to this day. Take a step back and enjoy the history that this lovely place has to in store for you. The area has been lived in since the Iron Age.

One of the best known features of Chesterfield is the crooked spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints. This parish church dates from the 13th century and, as the largest church in Derbyshire, is often mistakenly thought to be a cathedral. There are many theories as to how the spire became crooked but the culprit likely lies in the 32 tons of lead tiles that are covering it.

The market is certainly not to be missed and runs on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Here, you will have over 200 stalls to browse through. At the flea market here on Thursdays, you will find in the neighborhood of 100 stalls. There has been a market here since 1165, if not earlier. You will find the medieval streets of the Shambles close by the market. Dating from the 12th century, they are filled with shops and tearooms. You will also find The Royal Oak here, one of the oldest pubs in Britain.

There are many trails nearby that you can walk over when you have had enough of the town and want to get out in nature. Other outdoor activities in Derbyshire abound, including rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and caving. In Chesterfield itself, there are the Linacre reservoirs which are surrounded by a woodland where you can walk and cycle.

There is also the Queen's park which has a lake for boating, gardens, and an area for children to play. You will also find an athletic centre here where you can swim, play squash, badminton or tennis, as well as other sports.

When it comes to drinking and eating, you have a lot of places from which to choose. They range from small pubs to fine dining experiences. For something a bit more exotic, you can go for Thai, Chinese, Indian, Japanese or Mexican food. You will find the right place for every budget and taste. Local specialties include Bakewell pudding, Derbyshire oatcakes, Ashbourne gingerbread and Hartington stilton.

There are many options for lodging also. They run from self-catering to lovely bed and breakfasts and hotels in between. If you prefer, you can find a place to camp or caravan.

It is hard to do better than Chesterfield - Derbyshire for a getaway over a weekend or longer. The Peak District offers you a gorgeous place for losing yourself in the idyllic countryside of England.

Making The Very Most Of Long Trips In RVs And Diesel Pushers

Parents are always challenged with how to keep their kids occupied on long road trips. Staring out the window and reading books seem old-fashioned to a lot of kids. Technology has become almost a permanent part of their lives, so why not incorporate some of the latest gaming technology into your next trip and enjoy the peace and quiet as kids occupy themselves.

One of the coolest gaming interfaces coming out is Project Cobra. Project Cobra was designed by Zi Ye and Hammad Khalid in the Human Media Lab at Queen's University in Canada. The concept is taking games and projecting them onto a board that twists and bends. Attached sensors feed back into the laptop. Placing pressure on the board helps control the game, says Paul Ridden in his piece Gaming Flexibility Takes on New Twist with Project Cobra. The idea behind the design is to engage people physically with the software.

The computer is placed in a bag the gamer puts on his shoulder. The strap has a projector attached to it and sensors run from the laptop into the gaming board. Bending a corner of the board forward could, for instance, power up a sword, and releasing or bending it back could then bring down all the force of hell on a once mighty opponent!" says Ridden.

Allowing children to play with Apple's new iPad is also an excellent option for keeping children entertained. Perhaps because it is new, the iPad is still working out a few minor gaming kinks but for the most part the apps are very user friendly. One game in particular has captured the attention of many; Strategy and Civilization Revolution.

"The former a hybrid game, the latter an iPad-optimized title--play much better on the iPad because its larger screen reveals more of the battlefield while still offering a simple touch mechanism for ordering around your units," stated Chris Holt in his piece entitled Gaming on the iPad: What works, What doesn't. Holt also highly recommends driving games like the very popular Need for Speed and Real Racing.

Whether it's listening to music, or playing games, the noise level in a diesel pusher can be a point of contention. Now, the fighting is over. The Psyko 5.1 gaming headset gives 5.1 surround sound. It uses five separate speakers that fit into the bridge of the headset. Each ear cup is also equipped with subwoofers, says Ridden in his article Psyko 5:1: radical gaming headset. Kids and adults will feel like they are in the middle of a rock concert, or living on the set of their games. This is a three dimensional audio experience that takes headsets to the next level.

Within the next year Nintendo plans on releasing the 3DS, a console that will provide 3D entertainment without the use of glasses. While it is true that this technology already exists, it has not yet been applied to gaming and gaming technology.

Forget about complaints in the car and fighting over what radio station to listen to and how loud. Gaming technology has become so advanced that kids are learning, fine-tuning strategy skills and more. Get ready for hours of entertainment consider some new gaming devices.
